Gambling should be entertainment — never a way to make money, solve financial problems, or escape stress. At CasinoTrust.ca, we only list casinos regulated in Ontario, and we believe an honest directory has a responsibility to talk plainly about the risks. This page covers how to keep gambling fun, how to recognize when it isn't anymore, and exactly where to get help in Ontario.
Keeping It Fun: Ground Rules That Work
Set a budget before you play. Decide what you can afford to lose — money you'd otherwise spend on entertainment, not bills, savings, or rent. When it's gone, you're done.
Set a time limit too. Long sessions cloud judgment. Decide in advance how long you'll play and stop when you hit it, win or lose.
Never chase losses. Trying to win back money you've lost is the single most common path to problem gambling. Losses are the cost of the entertainment, not a debt to recover.
Don't gamble when you're upset, lonely, or under the influence. Gambling to cope with stress or low moods changes its role in your life — and rarely for the better.
Keep it one activity among many. If gambling is crowding out time with family, friends, work, or other hobbies, that's a signal worth paying attention to.
Warning Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling rarely arrives all at once. Watch for these patterns in yourself or someone close to you:
- Spending more money or time gambling than intended, repeatedly
- Hiding gambling activity from family or friends
- Borrowing money, selling possessions, or dipping into savings to gamble
- Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut back
- Gambling to escape problems or relieve anxiety and depression
- Letting work, school, or relationships suffer because of gambling
- Believing a big win will fix everything
If even one or two of these feel familiar, it's worth talking to someone. You don't need to hit a crisis point before reaching out.

Self-Exclusion: BetGuard
As of May 2026, Ontario has a centralized self-exclusion program called BetGuard, administered by iGaming Ontario. In a single registration, BetGuard lets you exclude yourself from every regulated online gambling site in Ontario — all operators, all at once. You no longer need to self-exclude with each casino or sportsbook individually.
Once you register, licensed operators must close off your access, stop all advertising and promotional contact, and cancel and refund outstanding wagers. You can find BetGuard through any AGCO-registered gambling site or via iGaming Ontario.
If you're not ready for full self-exclusion, every regulated Ontario site is also required to offer player-protection tools you can use right now: deposit limits, loss limits, session time reminders, and temporary time-outs. You'll find them in your account settings on any licensed casino.
Play Only on Regulated Sites
Every casino listed on CasinoTrust.ca is verified against iGaming Ontario and AGCO registration records. Regulated sites are required to verify your age and identity, offer responsible gambling tools, participate in BetGuard, and handle your money under provincial oversight. Offshore and unregulated sites offer none of these protections — if something goes wrong, you have no recourse.
19+ Only
The legal gambling age in Ontario is 19. Regulated sites verify age at signup, and underage gambling is illegal. If you're a parent, consider device-level parental controls and talk openly about gambling risks — research consistently shows early exposure increases the likelihood of problems later.
CasinoTrust.ca is an independent information and comparison site. We do not operate gambling services or accept wagers. If gambling has stopped being fun, call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 — free, confidential, 24/7.
